Root Canal Treatment

We’re experts in root canal treatment. We use the latest technology to make sure you’re comfortable and your tooth is saved.

Root Canal treatment or endodontics is a speciality of dentistry that involves treating the interior of teeth. Endodontic treatment is used to cure the infection and damaged nerves deep within the tooth root. This innovative therapy requires very little discomfort in order to preserve teeth that would otherwise have to be removed. Our dentists at Spinney Brook Dental use cutting-edge technology to treat the most challenging cases of root canal treatment in Irthlingborough.

The purpose of root canal treatment is to repair the soft tissue inside a tooth called the dental pulp. Dental pulp runs from the top of your tooth all the way down to its roots. If this becomes swollen or infected and you’re experiencing pain, we can remove it.

The most common symptoms of a root canal treatment are discomfort when chewing or eating, gum swelling (which indicates abscess infection) or discolouration of the tooth, where it appears darker than the other teeth.

Root Canal Treatment

First, we will diagnose the problem to determine the cause. Though not all pulp infections cause pain, bacteria can spread quickly and become serious. If you suspect any kind of problem, our diagnosis will detect it quickly.

The root canal therapy procedure is simple. Your dentist will create a hole at the top of the tooth and then use disinfectants to clean inside the root canal. The root canal will then be dried, and a rubber filling will be inserted into it. A temporary filling will also be placed at the opening of the crown in order to protect your tooth long-term from infection or damage.

The final stage of a root canal is restoring the tooth. For this, the dentist may use a crown. After the procedure, patients only need to take care with the treated tooth as it will not be as strong as it was before the infection.

How Painful is Root Canal?

Root canal therapy removes the infected pulp while preserving the remaining tooth. You will be given anaesthetic before starting the procedure so that it is no more painful than having a filling.

Root Canal After Care

The patient may feel some discomfort for a few days after the treatment with some tooth sensitivity or some mild pain. If this happens, over-the-counter painkillers can be taken.
