We can provide optimal solutions for your missing tooth, gums, and smile.
Losing a tooth is always an upsetting experience. You may feel some pain and the resulting gap will leave you feeling distressed and anxious. Perhaps you’re having difficulty chewing? Food getting caught in the gaps might make you irritable. Some words can become hard to pronounce, and your face shape may alter in certain situations. Having an unattractive smile can cause anxiety and have a negative impact on how people perceive you, which may add to the stress.
Obviously, if you’re having any one of these problems, you’ll want to look into filling the gap. What can you do? How much will it cost? There are several more questions when it comes to missing teeth. Find out how we can help you at Spinney Brook Dental Practice.
Every tooth has a specific function and is there for a reason. They all collaborate to assist you to chew effectively, smile, talk, and give structure to your facial features. The loss of even one tooth may disrupt the natural balance in your jaw and mouth, making it appear and function erratically. Over time, facial muscles tend to become concave, resulting in a sunken, aged appearance. Fortunately, there are plenty of alternatives for replacing lost teeth.
There are a variety of ways to replace one or more missing teeth, depending on your budget, personal preferences, and the recommendations you receive from your dentist.
Crown – A crown can be used in combination with an implant or combined with the rest of your natural tooth. It would only be suitable if some tooth and root remained in this scenario, so it wouldn’t be correct for everyone, but it is an option for those who are missing just a portion of their teeth.
Fixed Dental Bridge – A fixed dental bridge is best for people who have more than one tooth missing in the same region and need a bridge to cover the gap. This fixed option bridges the space created by your lost teeth by utilising a prosthetic tooth connected to adjacent teeth or dentures to connect to. This option also feels natural, and it generally behaves like normal teeth, with no need to clean and remove the fixed dental bridge separately.
Retained Bridge – A fixed bridge is best for persons who have lost their front teeth. In the case of molars being missing, a fixed bridge would be preferable to a retained bridge since it allows chewing. This type of bridge is replaceable and may be more suited for individuals who have suffered bone loss as a result of implants becoming unsuitable. They are not as long-lasting as fixed bridges, but they are often less expensive.
Partial Denture – As opposed to only replacing a single tooth, this type of denture replaces an entire section of teeth. It is also removable and provides easy eating and general aesthetic appeal.
Complete Denture – This denture is also removable and is often the solution people choose when they have lost most of their teeth. Keep in mind though, that this type of denture should not be worn all day every day for comfort’s sake and at least should be removed when sleeping.
You might be wondering why we’re bringing it up as an option since it’s not one we would recommend. We believe it is essential to explain the consequences of attempting to ignore one’s missing teeth by burying one’s head in the sand.
What may start as just one tooth missing can quickly lead to several more, which is a far more complex and costly situation to resolve. Doing nothing is never the best option!
It’s best to visit your dentist ASAP to replace any missing teeth.
